TubeGraph: Finding the best parts of each video!

Finding the best moments of... NBA Final Game 1998

NBA final 1998 tubegraphSo is it really useful to move the slider up and down to rate videos dynamically? We believe so, and we will take our latest "tubegraph of the month" as a good example. :-)

We already said we liked basketball so, as most of the people our age interested in basketball, we know by heart the final minute of Michael Jordan's last game with the Bulls. We reckon people who have rated the video also know it, and have managed to produce a good tubegraph, even though the quality was not so great (as some of you have pointed out:-).

NBA final 1998 tubegraph highlightedIf we take a look at the average (tube)graph, we can easily identify relevant moments. We purposely chose an unedited video that included timeouts, which correspond to the lower parts of the graph. In turn, the peaks in the graph are highlighted:

  1. Stockton hits a three-pointer.
  2. Jordan scores, steals the ball, and scores.
  3. Repetitions. Last shot side repetition is the best moment in the video.
  4. The Bulls win and celebrate (Jordan hugs Phil Jackson).

What next?

While the graph is great for having an easy way to know what parts to see, our idea is to enable the automatic playing of videos showing only the moments that are over a certain threshold. In this particular case, one could just watch the interesting things already mentioned, and not the whole length including timeouts, etc.
